Wondering why your inclusion commitments aren't converting into more candidates?
Despite the policies, mission statements, steering groups and awareness training, most arts and culture organisations are still struggling to make their intentions around diversity and inclusion an everyday reality.
The problem is, when it’s time to recruit, most of those good intentions fly out of the window. Without the luxury of time, most organisations default to their usual way of doing things. You end up using the same job descriptions that were written when Robbie was still part of Take That, posting on the same jobs boards you always use, only for someone to open up their little black book and ring up the mate that they're sure can "get the job done". If, by some miracle, you do manage to attract new candidates, they're often made to jump through the same old hoops shaped by the traditions and habits that have existed forever, that they're ultimately unlikely to get through.
In today’s climate, where funding, governance and public accountability increasingly demand meaningful action on inclusion, “business as usual” recruitment is no longer enough.
This interactive workshop is designed to help you step back and see your recruitment process as a whole system — not just a series of decisions. Through guided exercises and practical tools, you’ll begin to identify exactly where barriers may exist in your current approach, and where small but strategic changes could make the biggest difference.
"We now have a much more consistent process for recruiting all roles, and are more confident that our processes are genuinely transparent and as free from bias as possible. We regularly receive positive feedback from candidates too, (even unsuccessful ones!), commenting on how clearly we communicate with them and how much they appreciate the information we give to support their preparation for interviews and auditions.”
Flynn Le Brocq, Chief Executive, London Mozart Players

Who It's For
We know that not every arts organisation has a designated HR or Talent Team, and that it's often up to individual managers to create the processes they need. Whatever your job title, this course is for you if:
-
Your organisation has an average of at least 3 new hires annually and / or you're likely to have this number of new hires over the course of the next 12 months;
-
Your organisation is genuinely committed to improving inclusion and willing to take action around this;
-
You want to embed inclusive recruitment practices into your systems, policies, and culture across your organisation (and not just for individual hires)
-
You personally have the ability to input into the organisation's talent, workforce and recruitment processes across the board, OR you have some level of responsibility or influence over the organisation's approach to equity and inclusion (e.g. as an ERG Member or DEI Champion)
-
You / your team provide support to other hiring managers in your organisation (not mandatory, but definitely a bonus!)
This course probably isn't for you if…
-
You're looking for a "magic wand" / quick fix for your organisation's inclusion efforts
-
You’re only involved in recruitment on a role-by-role basis as a leader for your direct team .

Meet Your Coach:
Ceri Sunu
The Designing for Diversity Masterclass will be led by Brabble's Founder and Lead Consultant, Ceri Sunu.
A lifelong creative, Ceri created Brabble following her observations of working within the orchestral sector.
"One of the first things that struck me when I started working in the arts was how little attention was paid to the organisation as a workplace. The organisation I was working for at the time was artistically brilliantly, but massively behind in some of its business practices - particularly in regards to its people."
After completing a certification in Organisational Psychology, Ceri led an overhaul of the organisation's recruitment processes as well as implementing a number of new policies to support the organisation to become more inclusive and improve staff wellbeing.
"For me, supporting organisations to make their recruitment more inclusive isn't solely an equity or diversity issue (although those are very important issues!) - it actually has much wider consequences for the sector's long term sustainability as well. That's why we never look at recruitment in isolation, but help organisations to make sure that their recruitment processes both reflect and support their broader objectives artistically and missionally. I can't wait to see you at the Masterclass and to work with you to achieve your goals!"
